What Grows Between
36"h x 55"h
January 2001
Made with scraps, 1" samples, 4" samples, strips samples.
Stipple quilted with sulky rayon in various colors.
Detail of the "net" or growth between.  This was  free-form stitching on water soluble stiffener with the sulky rayon colors used on the adjoining "stones".
Inspiration:  The rainbow stepping stones represent the different areas of life, some happy, some sad, some easy, some challenging.  And as we hop from one state of being to another there is "What Grows Between".  To me this mossy growth between the stones is the intertwining of emotions and reactions and reverberations that is always cushioning the stones where they almost intersect.
