INSPIRATION:
The Day of the Dead has always been an intriguing holiday and cultural celebration to me.  As I studied the holiday I was entranced by the ceremonies performed and the reasons underlying them.  Connecting with Spirit, especially spirits of our ancestors seems to me to be a great reason for a holiday.  I approached the design and construction of this quilt with the serious yet playful attitude that seems to pervade the Dia de Los Muertos celebratios.  I used bits and pieces of fabrics from my grandparents in their honor, and captured some of their most memorable accessories.  In this way I celebrate my ancestors who I am connected to deep down in my bones.
